Wii All Night

I missed a week. My bad. I'm back now. Relax.

I have a Wii! After last Saturday's Tampa Bay Anime meeting, a cadre of my friends came with me to Gamestop to pick up my reserved system. I (We) were last in line, but all went well. I even convinced the manager to let my friends in out of the cold while I made my purchases. I walked out with one Wii and the new Zelda game at around 1 AM. Unfortunately, they didn't have ANY extra controllers, so our adventure was not over. I ended up going to a 24-hour Wal Mart (despite my usual reluctance to go there) to see if they had any extra controllers. As luck would have it, they only had the remote - not thumbstick. Nothing else was open at that hour, so I bought it and went home.

Once back at my pad, some of my friends ate a little wee-hours McDonald's while I set up the console. Easy, peasy, Japanesey. In no time, we were bowling and golfing. As the clock approached 3, some people started to fade away, leaving for their beds. Myself and my good friend stayed up well into the morning, though, trying out other games and watching Drawn Together and Robot Chicken. She stayed the night and we played all of the rest of the Wii Sports games the next day (except for boxing, which required the missing second thumbstick). It was an awesome time, filled with joy and excitement.

I now have another console in my house - one that I expect will give me lots of enjoyment for years to come.

This will be a blessedly short week at work, thanks to Thanksgiving day. We won't be going anywhere for Turkey Day, because we're saving money for our Christmas vacation. We will be dining with the USS Myrddin Saturday, though, and that's always good times. My weight loss has slowed down, but it's still proceeding. Here's hoping I don't fall back too far this weekend.

Current weight: 309.0 lbs

The expert they put on the radio said it looked like Nintendo was going after more family or anybody can play with the Wii instead of catering to just the gamers. Fair assessment? And what about the PS3 hoopla?

That is exactly true, Bookworm. They've been extraordinarily successful with the DS in Japan with titles about cooking, brain training, and "common sense". From first-hand experience, I can tell you that playing games on the Wii is as easy as it could be. They're also supporting small, inexpensive, simple games to win back people who are turned away by 12-button controllers. The beauty is that even hardcore (ish) gamers like me can still have fun with it.

The PS3 launch has been the biggest fiasco ever. There were shooting, thefts, and general craziness all across the country, mostly because Sony ended up putting about 20% the number of consoles they originally promised. Plus, there just aren't that many system-selling games available. Not much to get excited about.

I wish I could have stayed awake for the whole thing but playing the next morning was awesome. Nintendo has always been about innovations and fun so if you are going to get games like Cooking Momma and Brain Age, you're going to get it from Nintendo. Personally, Nintendo is just more my flavor though, I think the dance and music games on PS(x) have been fun. I suppose I can only hope they will move over to Nintendo. I had actually hoped that the PS franchise would search to give Nintendo some healthy competition but they really have very different niches. PS and xbox are more competition for each other and I'm kinda disappointed that the PS3 won't do more to balance the power of microsoft in that niche.

    I'm rambling...sigh 8)

Well, I hope I don't show up as anonymous here. :P Will check out the podcast when I get home. *Big thumbs up.*

I just can't understand getting that stressed out over PS3 and they have nothing for you to play. You can't play anything from PS2, which even I think was a bonehead move. Though most of the shootings seemed to be criminals who could do math (those guys have $600 to put on a game system they must be rob-able!)
