Sharp Corner

This blog, like so many others, is just a recounting of events in my life. Most of the readers will be my friends (Hi guys!), but the occassional random person may wander in. If you see something interesting here, comment or send me an email, no matter who you are.

Seven of Seventeen

I'm really fucking tired of doing interviews at work. I'm a programmer, and I want to write programs, but my boss keeps giving me other things to do like interview prospective hires. I know somebody has to do it, but it should not have to be me. I'm already having to push back all the time to get time for coding instead of team management. I'm wondering these days, if working for such a big company is a good fit for me.

I requested the Tuesday through Friday after Christmas off, but I'm not sure I'll get it all. I may actually have to come in to work on Friday. That would suck hard - I'd have to cut my vacation down by three days, just to go to work on a day where next to nothing is going to get done. I'm crossing my fingers and the fingers of any other people I see.

I attempted to post to this blog from my MDA, but it didn't publish, for some reason. Here's the post:

Misty and I just got back from Gamestop. I traded in 9 games for a total of $90!Some of that went into getting the latest Mortal Kombat. The rest is reserved for tomorrow, when I'll be sitting in line to reserve a Wii. I've never camped a line for a console before, so it should be fun. Even cooler, I've decided to "live blog" the event. Come back tomorrow to follow ny harrowing tale of facing the hordes and the elements armed only with my wit and my DS.

I did sit the line, along with 16 other people. I was number 7. These were
the people in front of me (minus one camera-shy woman):

And here are most of the people that were behind me:

Notice the relatively high female : male ratio. I think that's very telling about the demographic that is interested in the Wii.

I lost weight again this week. Woohoo!

Current weight: 313.0 lbs

You must keep sending work out; you must never let a manuscript do nothing but eat its head off in a drawer. You send that work out again and again, while you're working on another one. If you have talent, you will receive some measure of success - but only if you persist.

Ick, that sucks when they hire you to do one job and you end up getting stuck with mostly something else :P. And of course they frown if you hint too much that it isn't what you were supposed to be doing. I hope things work out for you at work! Geez, its a BOSS' job to do interviews! Sounds like they don't like to do it so they're pushing it off. What part of programming has to do with personnel?
Also crossing my fingers for you for getting Xmas time off! Its true, nobody does jack so close to a major holiday.
Nice game trade-in! I'm usually lucky if I get $20. Jef wanted a Wii and reserved one online, but the site they liked to get game stuff at just got shut down by Sony for being grey-market, so no more reservation for him :(
